3 Tips for Cleaning Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is a popular choice in residential settings as it is budget friendly and looks great! in some commercial and industrial settings it is a popular choice because it is relatively durable, comes in a wide range of colours, styles and sizes.

However, when you lay new flooring there is always the question of cleaning. Laminate floors do require a special way of cleaning, if they are damaged, they can’t be refurbished.

We don’t want that to put you off though! We have prepared 3 ways to remember the special care that your laminate floors need:

Pay Attention To Care Instructions

Follow instructions that the manufacturer indicates on how to properly clean them. By recording and then following the guidelines you will find that the life of the floors is extended and will always look their best.

Laminate floors don’t cope well with water, so ensure you keep them as dry as possible. They can get but its about ensuring that they don’t stay wet for very long at all. This mean if you introduce frequent sweeping, vacuuming or dry mopping into your cleaning schedule, the less damage will occur after a dirt build-up. Using the dry-cleaning methods, means less times washing it using wet methods.

Spot Treat the Hard Stains

When a stain appears on laminate flooring, spot treating it will be better for the floors before washing it. Ideas:

  • Chewing gum or wax – Use ice on gunky stains and you will be able to pull it off cleanly.
  • Paint, ink or grease – rub alcohol or a vinegar based solution on the stain

However, make sure you refer to the care instruction to make that they won’t further damage the floor. Spot treating the tough stains before you turn to cleaning solutions and abrasive scrubbers can make a big difference to the longevity of your laminate floors.

Cleaning Delicately

Not only does laminate flooring not respond well to wet methods but it doesn’t respond well to aggressive cleaning methods either. You need to carefully choose the products that will be used to clean them as well as carefully use these products on the floor.

Best options:

  • Microfibre mops
  • Soft bristle brooms

Additionally, because of their sensitivity to water, you are better off damp mopping laminate and should avoid wet mopping when possible.

Whether you choose laminate floors for cost savings, style, or durability, taking proper care of them is important to maintain appearance and functionality. Proper care also helps to ensure your laminate floors don't need to be replaced prematurely.
