Tennant Celebrates 40 Years of Walk-Behind Scrubber Excellence

A proud moment of recognition was realised in 2018 with the 40th anniversary of the release of Tennant Company’s first ever purpose-built walk-behind scrubber, the 432. Our scrubbers have come a long way since then, but we thought it was timely to reflect on similar milestones, beginning with 1978, right up to the latest release.

1978
Tennant Company customers were thoroughly impressed with the 432 which was extremely innovative and advanced for its time. Its 32-inch cleaning path made the task easier by far than traditional methods and its double-bladed curved rear squeegee ensured brilliant results on every pass. The 432 featured a 26.5-gallon solution tank and a 29.5-gallon recovery tank, both permitting plenty of cleaning time before refilling and emptying.
1980
Just two years later, the 432 Walk-Behind Scrubber was offered with an optional upgrade. The Extended Scrubbing (ES®) Technology increased scrubbing productivity by as much as 650 percent and permitted up to 2.5 hours of cleaning time before the tank had to be refilled.
1983
Tennant Company acquired and rebranded the U.S. division of Wetrok, resulting in the launch of the Tennant Trend line of cleaning equipment. The walk-behind floor scrubbers featured in the line-up.
1994
Another acquisition – this time, Castex/Nobles in Holland, Michigan – and Tennant Company’s hard floor scrubbers were merged with those of the Nobles range.
2002
The turn of the millennium brought about smart scrubbing technology at Tennant. That’s the year we introduced ‘FaST®’ – Foam-activated Scrubbing Technology – on select Tennant and Nobles walk-behind scrubbers. Customers clamoured to purchase the new and improved machines, eager to get on board with FaST®. Productivity was improved by as much as 30 percent and the machines used up to 70 percent less water than the previous models.
2008
Always innovating, in 2008, Tennant introduced ec-H2O™ Technology on select Tennant and Nobles walk-behind scrubbers. This incredible advancement electrically converts ordinary water into a solution that cleans more efficiently, reduces costs, enhances safety and significantly reduces environmental impact* when compared to cleaning using traditional methods and chemicals.
2016
The Tennant T300 Walk-Behind Scrubber was introduced in 2016, equipped with ec-H2O NanoClean® Technology and LCD Pro-Panel™ controls. ec-H2O NanoClean® improves upon the original iteration in that it performs better by cleaning more soil types over a greater number of applications**.
2017
Tennant’s one-of-a-kind Pro-Panel™ technology was introduced. Select machines are fitted with a complete on-board management solution for operators, service techs and owners to access all the data and training they need, right at their fingertips. The intuitive touch-screen controls allow operators to create programs of settings for specific zones and floor types in a facility.
2018
Tennant’s first autonomous scrubber was launched. Its BrainOS® operating system equips it with object avoidance capabilities, adaptive learning by demonstration and the intelligence to map its environment in a single pass. It also offers cloud-based reporting that feeds back performance analytics and diagnostics data to owners and tech personnel. Due for launcn into the Autstralian market in 2019.
R&D continues
Our Research & Development is ongoing and we look forward to delivering other exciting innovations in the not-too-distant future.

* Based on a study by EcoForm™.
** ec-H2O NanoClean cleans more soil types in more applications than the original ec-H2O. ec-H2O NanoClean technology is not suitable for all soils, including high concentrations of fats and oils. The type of soil will determine if conventional chemical cleaners are required.
