KG, a wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Cologne, Germany, today revealed a significant agreement for the innovative Green Machines 500ze™ at the Premier Industry Event, IFAT 2010. At a special drinks reception held at Tennant’s booth, the parties, supported by the British Consulate in Germany, shared details of the contract which will see the first Lithium-ion powered zero emissions street sweeper arrive in Germany imminently.

During the reception Stephen Lynas, Tennant Product Management Director, together with Herbert Winkelhog, General Manager (AWB) and Wendy Freeman, British Consul General and Head of UK Trade & Investment in Munich, Germany, explained how by working together they are leading the way in bringing environmentally conscious city cleaning to major city centers such as Cologne.

With major targets already published across Germany for the reduction of CO2 emissions, the adoption of electric vehicles and the drive toward the reduction of noise pollution, the addition of the Green Machines® 500ze™ sweeper to the AWB fleet is a key investment for the future.

• Germany has one of the world’s most ambitious targets for the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 40 percent by 2020 1
• Germany is aiming to put around one million electric vehicles on its streets by 2020 through its National Electric Mobility Plan 2
